COMING LATE FALL 2025

The University of Pennsylvania, funded by the Warren Alpert Foundation, presents "Genetic Counselors as Educators: Practical Teaching Strategies for Genetic Counselors".

Although genetic counselors are experts at educating patients regarding complex topics, there are limited opportunities for genetic counselors to learn how to be educators or refine their skills as teachers, particularly if they want to become instructors of genetic counselors and other health professionals enrolled in formal training programs or continuing education settings. This virtual 10-hour course is designed to provide the foundation for understanding adult educational theories and designing a course based on learning objectives, active and interactive learning strategies (such as simulated patients and developing role plays), student accessibility and assessment, all with a focus on culturally responsive andragogy. Strategies for evaluation and giving and receiving feedback will be reviewed. The course will include a session on developing your teaching philosophy and self-reflective practice. Each module will include resources for continued exploration of the topic and will include self-directed assignments.
