CEU: Genes, Choices, and Ethics
The University of Pennsylvania, funded by the Warren Alpert Foundation, presents "Genes, Choices, and Ethics: Navigating The Moral Dilemmas In Genetic Counseling". A comprehensive bioethics education program designed for genetic counselors. This course explores foundational bioethical principles, legal considerations, and ethical challenges encountered across various specialties and life stages.
Through this course, genetic counselors will gain a deeper understanding of how bioethical frameworks apply to their practice, analyze legal aspects such as patient rights and confidentiality, and develop strategies to navigate complex moral dilemmas in clinical settings.

Course Overview
Genetic counseling is filled with complex ethical considerations that require a deep understanding of bioethics, legal frameworks, and patient-centered decision-making. Genes, Choices, and Ethics: Navigating Moral Dilemmas in Genetic Counseling equips genetic counselors with the knowledge and tools to navigate ethical challenges across various specialties and life stages. This course explores foundational bioethical principles, legal considerations—including patient rights and confidentiality—and real-world strategies for ethical decision-making in clinical practice.
The first 250 Genetic Counselors who complete all modules and evaluations will have their NSGC credit fees covered. Once your completion of the modules is confirmed, you will receive a link to complete the online evaluations for each module. Individuals will not be eligible for NSGC CEU credits until all modules and course evaluations are complete.
Target Audience
This course is designed for genetic counselors practicing in a variety of settings, including clinical, research, and industry roles. It is also relevant for healthcare professionals who work closely with genetic counseling cases and seek to deepen their understanding of bioethics in genomic medicine.

Accreditation
The National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) has authorized The University of Pennsylvania, funded by the Warren Alpert Foundation to offer up to 1 CEUs or 10 Category 1 contact hours for the activity Bridging the Gap: A Clinical Genetic Counselor's Guide to Molecular Diagnostics and Variant Interpretation .The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) will accept CEUs earned at this program for the purposes of genetic counselor recertification.
